BARNAWAPARA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Indo-Gangetic Monsoon Forest in the state of
Chhattisgarh. It was set-up in the year 1976 under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.

Trees: Tendu, Semal, Teak, Mahua, Sal, Terminalia, Ber and Bamboo
Fauna
Tigers, Flying Squirrels, Four-horned Antelopes, Leopards, Chinkara, Black Buck, Wild Dogs, Barking
Deer, Sloth Bear, Porcupine, Bison, Chital, Striped Hyena, Muntjac, Cobra, Python, etc.
Avian Fauna
White-Rumped Vultures, Lesser Kestrels, Green Avadavat, Herons, Racket-tailed Drongos, Egrets,
Wood Peckers, etc.
Getting there
Mahasamund railway station, about 60km away, is the closest railhead. The nearest airport is at
Raipur (approximately 85km). Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is easily accessible through the PWD
forest road, which links Barnawapara with Pithora on NH-6 and with Raipur via Patewa.
Tourist Information
Accommodation facilities for the incoming tourists are available in and around the sanctuary.
Trekking, bird watching and nature walk are primary tourist pastimes here.
Tourists are not allowed to carry non-degradable wastes like plastic bags or containers inside the
reserve. Tourists are not permitted to smoke or consume alcohol and non-vegetarian food in the
sanctuary. Shooting, hunting, feeding and teasing of animals and making loud noises are strictly
prohibited.
Avoid wearing perfumes during your trip to the forest as perfume fragrances can attract the wild
animals. Always wear light, khaki or green clothes.
