CHILLA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the banks of the river Ganga in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
It is a part of the Rajaji National Park along with the Motichur sanctuary and Rajaji sanctuary. It is
separated from the Motichur and Rajaji sanctuary by the river Chilla and river Ganges. It was
declared a wildlife sanctuary in the 1977.

Reaching there
The closest railway station and bus stand are located about 50 km away at Haridwar. The sanctuary
is well connected with the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh state through UKSRTC and UPSRTC bus
services respectively. By road Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary can also be accessed from Dehradun (35 km),
Muzaffarnagar (100 km), Meerut (160 km), Chandigarh (224km), New Delhi (228 km) and Ambala
(180 km). Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun is the nearest domestic airport and Indira Gandhi
International Airport is the nearest international airport.
Tourist Information
Accommodation can be availed at GMVN Tourist Rest House at Chilla. Many other staying options
are available around the sanctuary. Bus safari, jeep safari, elephant rides, bird watching and nature
photography are popular tourist activities in the sanctuary. Jeeps for safari rides can be hired from
the locals. Elephant safari rides are organised only in the morning and evening hours and have to be
booked in advance. The tourists can also visit the Interpretation Center-Cum-Library situated inside
the wildlife sanctuary.
Entry without valid permit and driving in the sanctuary after the sunset is not allowed. Carrying
firearms, alcohol and pets inside the sanctuary is strictly prohibited.
