DIBANG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled at the Upper Dibang Valley sub-district of Arunachal Pradesh at an elevation of between 1800m and 5000m. The sanctuary was set-up in the 1980s. In 1998, this sanctuary along with the neighbouring Mouling National Park was incorporated into the Dibang Biosphere Reserve.

Flora
The alpine and temperate forest types are the prominent vegetation covers of the region. Canadian hemlock, Himalayan Yew, etc. are the important flora species.

Fauna
Seron, goral, musk deer, red panda, black bear, snow leopards, clouded leopard, macaque, blue sheep, otter and flying squirrel are seen here.

Avian Fauna
Temminck's Tragopan, Sclater's Monal, Blyth's Tragopan, Rufus-Tailed Babbler, Japanese Bush Warbler and Wedged Billed Wren-Babbler are spotted here.

Getting there The nearest railway station is at Tinsukia. The closest airport to Anini is at Dibrugarh. Anini can also be reached by Pawan Hans Helicopter service from Itanagar. Regular taxi and bus services ply from Anini to the wildlife sanctuary through Roing which is the gateway to the Dibang valley.

Tourist information
The tourists can find accommodation at the PWD Inspection Bunglow, Circuit House or forest rest houses at Dibang Wildlife Sanctuary. More staying options are available at Roing and Anini.

Restricted Area Permit or Inner Line Permit is required for the Indian nationals for entering the valley. These permits can be obtained in the New Delhi, Kolkata or Assam offices. The foreign nationals have to acquire a Protected Area Permit. This can be obtained from Indian Foreign Offices in their respective countries. Entry permit is required for all the tourists from the Regional Forest Office for entering the Dibang Biosphere Reserve.

Since the Dibang Valley is located close to the sensitive Indo-China border region, so tourists are advised not to venture into unknown tracts. Just follow the assigned tracts in the park. Trekking is a popular activity here for the tourists.
