GHATIGAON WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Ghatigaon wildlife sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh, is the last habitat of the majestic Great Indian Bustard in India. Hence, it is also popularly referred to as Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary. The sanctuary was established in the year 1981.

Flora
Vegetation type: Tropical thorn, tropical dry, tropical moist, subtropical broadleaved hill forests and bamboo brakes
Major species: Teak, sal, khair, palash, murjan, dhawada, seja, rayenja, ghote, bewag, katti, chaman, salai and heans.

Fauna
Wolf, chital, monkey, blue bull, fox, wild boar and hyena.

Avian Fauna
Great Indian Bustard, Black Duck, peafowl, etc.

How To Reach
The nearest railway station, bus terminal and airport are located at Gwalior, which is about 10 km away from Ghatigaon wildlife sanctuary. The incoming visitors can also avail bus services from Ghatigaon.

Tourist Information
Quality accommodation facilities can be availed in the hotel of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation or other private hotels at Shivpuri and Gwalior.
Safari rides, trekking, photography, bird viewing and nature trail are popular activities of the tourists in the sanctuary. Diesel or petrol vehicles that are more than five years old are not allowed inside the sanctuary. For the ardent bird lovers, the month of November is the apt time to view the migratory birds in the sanctuary.
Dhuan Hanuman Temple, Gwalior Fort, Gupteshwar Temple and Dev-cave are popular tourist spots in and around the sanctuary. Avoid wearing flashy clothes and heavy perfumes as these can agitate the wild animals. Keep safe distance from the wild animals while viewing them. Do not disturb their privacy and the serenity of the forest. Littering, playing loud music and honking are prohibited inside the sanctuary.
