Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve is spread across three districts of Uttarakhand-Nainital, Pauri Garhwal
and Almora. Its total area coverage is about 1318.54 sq km. It is named after the legendary hunter
and naturalist, Jim Corbett. The head quarter of the reserve is at Ramnagar.

Flora
Pipal, Rohini, Sal and Mango trees.
Fauna
There are around 160 tigers in the reserve. The chances of tiger sightings are more at the Dhikala
forest zone during the late season i.e. April to mid-June.
The other animal and bird species are Leopards, Lellow-throated Martens, Chital, Indian elephants,
Gharials, Indian Marsh crocodile, Crested Cerpent Eagle, red jungle fowl, blossom-headed parakeet,
Russel’s viper, common krait, kingfisher, rhesus monkey, etc.
Getting there
Ramnagar can be easily reached by train from New Delhi, Delhi, Allahabad and Varanasi. From the
Ramnagar station one can hire taxi to reach the tiger reserve. Ramnagar is also well connected by a
network of roadways with New Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Nainital, Bareilly, Dehradun, Ranikhet and
Haridwar.
Tourist information
Jim Corbett Tiger Reserve has five zones - Dhangari, Bijrani, Domunda, Jhirna and Sonanadi. Each of
these zones is facilitated with an entry gate and accommodation facilities in the form of forest rest
houses, dormitories and villas. Only Jhirna zone is open throughout the year for tourists.
Every vehicle going for excursion has to be escorted with a registered forest guide. Fishing, trekking
and cycling are allowed inside the reserve on special permission from the concerned Range officer.
Non-vegetarian food, entering of private buses, littering and night safaris are not allowed inside the
park. Elephant and jeep safaris, rock-climbing, rappelling, rafting, etc are popular activities here.
Visitors are advised to take plenty of mineral water and mosquito repellents while visiting the park.
