KABAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Kabar Wildlife Sanctuary is situated around the Kanwar Taal in the state of Bihar. The Kanwar Taal is
regarded as the largest freshwater Oxbow lake in the whole of Asia. It was created naturally as a
result of the meandering of River Budhi Gandak. Kabar sanctuary is named after this famous lake
and is also frequently referred to as Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary was established in
the year 1987 and is located about 22km away from the Begusarai town.

Imili, Neem, Sohar, Babool, Bamboo, Khajur, Sissoo, Shirish, etc.
Fauna
Leopard, Musk Deer, Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Common Mongoose, Nilgai, Palm Squirrel,
Indian Krait, Indian Cobra, Dhaman, Water Snake, Tortoise and others.
Avian Fauna
Popular Species: long billed Vultures and Oriental White-backed Vulture
Other bird species: Crested Serpent Eagle, Purple Rumped Sunbird, Magpie Robin, Red Wattled
Lapwing, Tailor Bird and others
Getting there
Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport in Patna is the closest airport. The nearest railway Station is located
at Begusarai. Kabar Wildlife Sanctuary is well connected with different parts of the state by good
network of roads. National Highway Nos 28 and 31 pass quite close to Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary.
Tourist Information
Different accommodation options are available in and around the sanctuary. Bird watching and
nature trail are important pastimes of the visitors.
The tourists are advised to respect all the rules and regulations of the forest. No one is allowed to
pluck any leaves or flowers from the forest flora. Also teasing or feeding the animals and birds and
littering inside the sanctuary are strictly prohibited.
