KAIMOOR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Kaimoor Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Sonebhadra and Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. It is situated near the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border. It was established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1982.

Flora
Vegetation cover: deciduous forest, swampy marshes and mosaic grassland.
Major trees: Salai, Mahua, Indian Rosewood, Sal, Teak, Jamun, etc.

Fauna
Flagship Species: Black Buck
Other species: Tiger, Sambar Deer, Panther, Chital, Sloth Bear, Four-Horned Antelope, Wild Boars, Nilgai, Narokole, Python, etc.

Avian Fauna
Resident birds: Bulbul, Peafowl, Falcon, Pied Hornbill, Grey Patridge, Blue Jay, Eastern Imperial Eagle, etc.
Migratory birds: Black-Necked Stork, Ferruginous Duck, Greater Adjutant, Lesser White-Fronted Goose, Baer’s Pochard Duck, etc.

How to Reach
Babatpur Airport at Varanasi, about 150 km away is the closest airport to Kaimoor Sanctuary. The closest bus terminal and railway station are located at Robertsganj about 26 km away. Kaimoor Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled on the Robertsganj- Ghorawal Road and can be easily approached through roadways from Chunar (60 km) and Mirzapur (100 km).

Tourist Information
The tourist can stay in the forest rest houses at Mahuaria, Harrah and Churk with prior booking with the Divisional Forest Officer. The tourists can also opt to stay in the touring hut at Mahuaria.
Visitors to Kaimoor sanctuary have to buy the entry ticket from the Range Forest Officers, stationed at Robertsganj, Gurma, Halia and Ghorawal. The entry ticket is valid for only three days. The morning hours are the ideal time to visit. Churk is one the major entry points to the sanctuary. Guides can be hired at all the entry points. Visitors are not allowed to move on foot inside the sanctuary. However nature trail is allowed on certain designated places.
The 4,000 year old Lakhania rock painting, Salakahan nature centre, Mukhha water fall and Echo valley are some of the popular tourist spots located within the sanctuary. Kalidah and Anupam Lake near Rameshwarkund are ideal places to spot the wildlife and different fish species.
