KALSUBAI HARISHCHANDRA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Kalsubai Harishchandra Wildlife Sanctuary, established in the year 1986, is nestled amidst the
Sahyadri hill ranges. It is located at Akole Tehsil of Ahmednagar district in the state of Maharashtra.
Flora
Vegetation: semi evergreen forest, moist mixed deciduous forest and semi deciduous shrub savanna.
Trees: Chandawa, Avali, Beheda, Kharvel, Gulchavi, Aashind, Siras, Lokhandi, Parjambhual and Hirda.
Fauna
Leopard, palm civet, barking deer, wolf, fan-throated lizard, monitor lizard, turtles, sambar, etc.
Avian Fauna
Herons, White Necked Storks, Water Hens, Egrets, Black Ibis and others.
Getting there
The nearest railway station to Kalsubai Harishchandra Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Ghoti in
Mumbai. The nearest airports are in Mumbai and Pune. The closest bus terminal is at Bhandardara.
Tourist Information
For accommodation within the sanctuary tourists have to contact the Deputy Conservator of Forests
(Wildlife), Nasik. Trekking and nature trails are primary tourist activities here. Wear comfortable
clothes and carry adequate food, water and other necessary items while going for any trekking trip
here.
The Kalasubai peak (approximately 1646m in altitude) is located within the sanctuary. Other places
of interest in and around the sanctuary are Shiva Temple, Bhandardara dam (renowned for the
Umbrella fall) and Randha fall. Alang, Bahiroba, Kalasubai, Harischandragad, Ratangad, Madangad,
etc. are some of the ancient monuments located within this forest reserve.
