Nestled in the magnificent Jubilee Hill of Hyderabad city, Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park
was declared a national park by the Andhra Pradesh Government in 1998. The park is also popularly
known as KBR National Park.
About the park
The famous Chiran Palace, which the Nizam Azam Jah gifted to his son Prince Mukarram Jah on his
coronation in 1967, is located inside the forest. Hence the park is also referred to as Chiran Palace
by the locals. At present the park is named after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, former chief minister of
Andhra Pradesh. The national park is spread over an area of about 1.425 Sq. Km.
Flora
Most of the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is covered with Southern tropical dry deciduous
forest. The important trees here are Sandalwood, Teak, Babul, Neem, Ficus, Palas etc.
Fauna
Large size animals are not found in KBR National Park. Prominent animals of the park include Small
Indian Civet, Porcupine, Pangolin, Jungle Cat, Mongoose, Wild Boar, etc. Around 130 bird species are
found in the park. Peacock is the endemic bird here.
Getting there
Hyderabad station is the nearest railhead and is located around 16 kilometers away. Begumpet
station and Secunderbad station are other closest railheads. Closest airport is located at Begumpet
which is about five km away. The nearest bus terminal is located at Goliguda which is about 16 km
away.
Tourist tips
Good quality accommodation facilities are available in several hotels and lodges located in
Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Begumpet. The tourists can visit the three ancient palaces - Chiran
Palace, Motorkhana house and Gol Bungalow that are located inside the park. The visitors can also
avail the safari trips that are organized by the forest authorities.
