KHEONI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Kheoni wildlife sanctuary is situated in the Dewas District of Madhya Pradesh. It was set up in the year
1955.
Flora
Forest type: dry deciduous forest
Major species: Teak, Bija, Dhawada, Saja, Khair, Baheda, Shisham, Bamboo, etc.
Fauna
Cheetal, blue bull, sambhar, wolf, four horned antelope, barking deer, wild boar, etc.
Avian Fauna
Peacock, bulbul, kingfisher, owl, sparrow, koel etc.
Getting There
The nearest aerodromes to Kheoni wildlife sanctuary are located at Bhopal and Indore. Closest railway
terminal is at Harda. Nearest bus stops are at Kheoni, Dewas and Kannod.
Tourist Information
Accommodation can be availed at the forest rest house of Kheoni.
Diesel and petrol four wheelers are only means of travelling inside the sanctuary. Only vehicles that are
not more than five years old are allowed inside the sanctuary. Maintain safe distance from the wildlife
during your safari expeditions and do not disturb the privacy of the animals in any manner. It is
advisable to wear dark green, olive or khaki shade clothes so that you can easily blend with the forest
surroundings. Honking, littering, playing loud music, carrying pets and weapons or inflammable items
inside the sanctuary are strictly prohibited.
There is no electricity supply in the Kheoni village. Also, there are no provisions or ration available in the
surrounding areas. So carry enough water and food provisions while visiting the sanctuary.
Shiv temple and 'Bal-Ganga' river are famous religious spots in the Kheoni village. Many people from the
adjoining areas come to take a holy dip in the river every 3 to 4 times in a year. Nemawar and Ujjain are
other popular tourist places near the sanctuary.
