Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary

Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled on the floodplains of Brahmaputra River in Assam. Established in the year 1972, the sanctuary is a part of Laokhowa–Burachapori eco- system.

Flora
Tropical semi-evergreen forest, moist deciduous forest, alluvial forest and alluvial grassland.

Fauna
Flagship species: Wild Buffalo and Rhinoceros.
Other species: Tiger, Leopard Cat, Elephant, Hog Deer, Wild Buffalo, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Python, Monitor Lizard, Cobra, etc.

Avian Fauna
Spotbilled Pelican, Intermediate Egret, Large and Little Cormorant, Swamp Patridge, Crow Pheasant, Whitebreasted Waterhen, Pond Heron, Whitebacked Vulture, Brahminy Kite, etc.

Getting there
LGBI Airport in Guwahati is the closest airport and Nagaon railway station (approximately 28km away) is the nearest railhead to Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary. By road the sanctuary can be easily approached from Guwahati (148km) and Nagaon.

Tourist Information
A Forest Bungalow, located within the sanctuary, is available for accommodation to the tourists, with prior booking. Tourists can stay in the circuit house, hotels and lodges in the Nagaon town. For any queries or information on the wildlife sanctuary the visitors can get in touch with the Divisional Forest Officer or the Forest Range Officer. Respect the serenity and tranquility of this protected reserve and do not in any way disturb or agitate the wildlife.

Orang National Park (30km away) and Kaziranga National Park (40km away) are located in the proximity of Laokhowa sanctuary.
