NANDINI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY SANCTUARY

Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at Ramnagar in the Jammu district of Jammu and Kashmir. It was established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1990.

Pine, fir, etc

Fauna
Leopard, rhesus monkey, bharal, wild boar, grey langur, Indian fox, barking deer, goral, civet cats, hare, jungle cat, five-striped squirrel, mongoose and porcupine.

Avian Fauna
Babblers, blue rock pigeon, barbets, bulbul, bee-eaters, Indian mynah, peafowl, great jungle fowl, red jungle fowl, chakor, chir pheasants, etc.

How to Get There
The nearest airport and railway terminal are located at Jammu about 26 km and 28 km away respectively. Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary can also be approached by roadways from Jammu (about 28 km away) and Srinagar (approx. 274 km. away).

Tourist Information
Accommodation at the sanctuary can be availed with prior booking with wildlife warden of Jammu. One can also opt to stay in Jammu, where different budget hotels, resorts and guest houses are easily available. Bird and mammal viewing, nature trail, safari, trekking and wildlife photography are major activities of the tourists in the sanctuary. For enjoying safari in Nandini Sanctuary, the tourists have to obtain a wildlife tour permit from the Regional Wildlife Warden, stationed in Ramnagar. During your safari trips refrain from honking loudly and chasing the wild animals with your vehicles. Maintain safe distance from the wildlife and do not try to touch or feed them.
Do not buy any product made from the animals’ or birds’ body part from any person in or around the sanctuary. Respect the serenity and tranquility of the forest and keep the wildlife sanctuary clean. It is always a good idea to visit the sanctuary in small groups. Always stay close to your group and follow the designated path so that you do not end up getting lost in the woods.
