NANDPUR MADMESHWAR BIRD SANCTUARY

Nandpur Madmeshwar Bird Sanctuary is situated along the Nandur Madhmeshwar dam at the convergence of Kadwa and Godavari Rivers. It is located at the Niphad Tehsil of Nasik district in the state of Maharashtra. This sanctuary is a paradise for bird lovers. It was established in the year 1950.

Flora
Vegetation type: evergreen forest
Trees: Babul, Jamun, Neem, Pangara, Nilgiri, Maharukh, Mango, Vilayati Chinch, etc.

Fauna
Palm Civet, Cat, Jackal, Otter, Wolves, Mongoose, Cobra, Krait, etc.

Avian Fauna
Resident birds: Teals, Cormorants, Little Grabe, Black Ibis, Vultures, Harriers, Osprey, Sand Pipe, Grey hornbill, etc.
Migratory birds: White Stork, Cranes Shanks, Mallard, Wigeon, Flamingo, Gargenery Shoveller, Pochards, Godwits, Weavers, Spoonbills, etc.

Getting There
The nearest railhead to Nandpur Madmeshwar Bird Sanctuary is about 12km away at Niphad, on the Mumbai-Bhusaval railway line. The closest aerodrome is in Aurangabad approximately 180km away. By road this bird reserve is easily approachable from Nasik (Nasik - Chandoriphata - Saikheda - Khangaon Thadi - 40km).

Tourist information
Rest houses located at Khangaon Thadi can be availed for staying against prior booking with the Executive engineer, Irrigation, Nasik.
The best way to explore Nandpur Madmeshwar sanctuary is by boats. For hiring guides, boats for marine safari, etc. visitors need to contact the Assistance Conservator of Forest, RFO, stationed at Khangaon Thadi and Nasik.
The nearby famous tourist spots are Deolali, Pandavleni Caves, Sita Gumpha, Sula Vineyards, Panchavati and Someshwar.
