NARGU WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Nestled along the bank of the River Uhl, in Himachal Pradesh, Nargu wildlife sanctuary gradually
connects with the Khokhan Sanctuary. It was established in 1962 and was later constituted a wildlife
sanctuary in the year 1974.
Flora
Vegetation covers: Sub-Tropical Pine Forests, Moist Deodar Forests, Western Mixed Coniferous Forests
and Sub-Alpine Forests.
Trees: Moru Oak, Kharsu Oak and Ban Oak.
Fauna
Himalayan black bear, brown bear, Himalayan yellow throated stone marten, leopard, Indian porcupine,
barking deer, common giant flying squirrel, Himalayan weasel and others.
Avian Fauna
Pheasants, monal, snow pigeon, snow partridge, etc.
Getting There
The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, situated close to Kullu. The closest railway station is located
approximately 40 km away from Nargu wildlife sanctuary at Joginder Nagar. Nearest bus terminal is at
the Mandi town. From here one can get different transport facilities to the sanctuaries.
Tourist Information
Barog village is the nearest access to the sanctuary. The visitors to the Nargu sanctuary can stay in the
rest houses in Thaltukhod and Silbadhwani. They can also find quality accommodation in different
resorts, hotels and guest houses in Manali and Kullu.
Hiking, trekking, nature trail and wildlife spotting are the main activities of this protected area. The
adjoining Barog village is connected to Kullu town through an adventurous trekking route. Always keep
handy emergency telephone numbers, maps and travel light during trekking and hiking expeditions. The
areas of this forest facing towards the River Uhl are the most beautiful spots for the tourists.
