RAMNAGAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, about 6km away from
Jammu city. It was established in the year 1981 to protect the eco-system of the surrounding
regions.
Flora
Arid deciduous scrub, arid mixed deciduous forest and shiwalik forest.
Fauna
Flagship species: barking deer and nilgai.
Other species: wild boar, rhesus monkey, fox, jungle cat, etc.
Avian Fauna
Blue rock pigeon, Indian mynah, peafowl, jungle crow, red jungle fowl, white cheeked bulbul, golden
oriole and others.
Getting there
Jammu Airport, located about 8km away is the nearest airport to Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary. The
closest rail head is the Jammu railway station, around 6km away. From the airport and the railway
station, tourists can easily avail bus and taxi service to reach the sanctuary.
Tourist Information
A mud hut with two bedrooms, situated inside the sanctuary, can be availed for staying with prior
reservations. Permit for entering Ramnagar Sanctuary can be obtained from the Regional Wildlife
Warden of Jammu.
The sanctuary has a hilly and undulating topography, so the tourists are always advised to wear
comfortable clothes and trekking boots. Trekking, wildlife photography and jeep safaris are main
tourist activities in the forest.
Carrying of pets, transistors and explosive items are not allowed inside the forest area. Advised to
carry mosquito repellents if visitors plan to stay overnight in the sanctuary.
