Satkosia Tiger Reserve is situated in the district of Angul in Odisha. It is spread over an area of about
964 sq km over four districts which include Cuttack, Angul, Boudh and Nayagarh. The word Satkosia
is made up of two words - sat meaning seven and kosk means two miles. The tiger reserve is a
protected area under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Flora
Jamun, Sal, Dhaura, Arjuna, Bahada, Mahul, Haldu, Salia (Bamboo species), Sissoo, Patuli, Gila,
Kangada, etc. The Phasi tree, which is used for building the holy chariot of Lord Jaganath, grows
here naturally.
Fauna
On the basis of the recent traditional pug-mark census method, nail mark along the tree trunks,
excreta, prey kill, there about 8 to 10 Tigers in the SATKOSIA TIGER RESERVE as per the Satkosia
Wildlife officials. As per the Satkosia Wildlife Division the pug marks of two to three Royal Bengal
Tigers have been ascertained in the recent survey.
Other animals found: Leopard, Small Indian Mongoose, Stripped Hyena, Elephants, Chital, Malabar
Giant Squirrels, Chausingha, Indian Toad, Indian Bull frog, Tree Frog, etc.
Avian Fauna
Wadlers, Hawk Eagle, Sand goose Pigeons, Partridges, Srub fowl, Ibis, Storks, Flamingo, Heron,
Egrets, Darter, Honey buzzard, etc.
Getting there
Angul railway station and Talcher railway station junction are the nearest railway stations to the
reserve. The closest airport is at Bhubaneswar. The reserve is about 161 km away from
Bhubaneswar. Visitors can reach Angul through National Highway 55. From Angul one can reach
Pampasar, which is the main entry gate to the tiger reserve.
Tourist information
Camping facilities are available at Purnakote and Tikarpada with prior booking. Visitors have to
produce their voter ID card or PAN card during reservation. They are also advised to be punctual in
all camp activities. Removal or collection of any forest/animal produce within the tiger reserve is
prohibited.
