Situated in the Imphal district of Manipur, Sirohi National Park is one of the smallest forest
reserves of the country. It is spread over an area of about only 41.80 sq km.
About the park
The park lies in the east of the Imphal district along the Indo-Myanmar border. It is a sort of
forest reserve that was notified a national park in the year 1982.
Flora
The park is the only place in the entire world where the famous Sirohi Lily or the Lilium
Mackliniae can be found. It grows abundantly in the Khayang peak of the region between May
and June. Flame of the Forest, Large Spiny Tree Fern, American ginseng, orchids, etc. are other
flora species of the reserve.
Fauna
Tiger, deer, leopard, different antelopes, etc. are the important animals of the reserve.
Avian Fauna
The prominent birds of the region include tragopan, owl, warblers, vultures, eagles, tits, bar-
backed pheasant and so on.
Tourist information
The tourists can find accommodation in the nearby town of Ukhril, Julilal and Dimapur. Better
quality lodging facilities are available at Imphal, almost 53 kilometers away from Sirohi
National Park. For reservations and permits the visitors have to contact the Chief Wildlife
Warden, stationed at Imphal.
Trekking and nature trails are important tourist activities of the park. The Shirui Kashong Peak
and the Khayang peak are the ideal trekking destinations in the region.
The other famous tourist spots to visit in and around the reserve are Dilily Waterfall, Hundung
Mangva Cave, Azoa Jenephui Magi Lake, Phangrei Picnic Spot, the saline springs at Kalhang,
Chingjui Matza and the historical Khankui Cave. Khankui Cave is the place where several
villagers took refuge during the World War II.
How to reach there
Julilal Airport is the adjacent airport. Dimapur is the nearest railway station and the closest bus
terminal. From Dimapur one can reach the park via NH 39.
