Suhelwa Tiger Reserve is spread along the Balrampur, Gonda and Shravasti districts of Uttar
Pradesh. Suhelwa forest strip is a part of the Terai Arc Landscape which is believed to be one of
the three crucial tiger territories in India. This tiger reserve is connected with Nepal’s
Mahadevpuri forest.

Sal, khair, Sagaun (teak), Sheesham, Jamun, Asna, Haldu, Dhamina, Jigna, Phaldu and Bahera.

Tiger, Leopard, Wild boar, Bear, Pythons,Bbarking deer, Cheetah, Blue bull, Deer, etc.
Reckless poaching had posed a big threat to the tigers in Suhelwa Tiger Reserve. Its
connectivity with the Nepal border has also worsened the poaching situation in the area. A tiger
skin was detained from poachers at Tulsipur on the Indo-Nepal border in the vicinity of the
reserve on July, 2006. However, as per the recent tiger census report, there are around 10 tigers
in the reserve.

Siberian Crane, Red and Blue Pochard, Common Teal, etc.
Getting there
The nearest bus terminal and railway station are at Balrampur (about 60 km). Gonda is another
closest railway station to the reserve. By road one can also reach the reserve from Bahraich
through Bhinga, which is the district headquarter of Sravasti. Amausi airport in Lucknow (about
269 km away) is the nearest airport.
Tourist information
Suhelwa is approximately 42 km away from Gonda and around 67 km away from Balrampur.
Tourists can find good accommodation facilities in these places. The reserve is divided into two
different sections - West Suhelwa and East Suhelwa.
