SURINSAR MANSAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Situated in the Jammu and Kashmir state of India, Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary was
established in the year 1981 to protect the ecology and the wildlife of the region. This sanctuary
derives its name from the two lakes located at two ends of the sanctuary.

Trees and plants: Pinus Gerardiana, Bahunia Variegata, Mallotus Phillipensis, Dalbergia Sissii, Ficus
Religiosa, etc.
Fauna
Leopard, barking deer, wild boar, goral, fox, etc.
Avian Fauna
Pigeon, blue rock pigeon, red jungle fowl, black partridge, grey partridge, peafowl, rufus turtle dove,
etc.
Getting there
Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary can be easily accessed by road, rail and air. The nearest airport,
railway station and bus terminal are located in Jammu which is about 42 km away.
Tourist Information
Tourists who wish to stay inside or close to Surinsar Mansar sanctuary can obtain necessary
information and permission from the Regional Wildlife Warden, Tourist Reception Center stationed
in Jammu. Quality hotels, resorts and rest houses are available in Jammu for all types of tourists.
The visitors should strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the sanctuary. Do not carry pet, and
litter the premises and make any sort of loud noise inside this protected area. Avoid using flash
photography. Always wear clothes with green or khaki shades that nicely camouflage with the forest
environment.
