TALAKAVERI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled along the Western Ghats in the state of Karnataka. The
sanctuary is named after the Talakaveri point which is the origin of River Kaveri and is situated on
the eastern limit of the sanctuary.

Flora
Forest covers: thick semi-evergreen and evergreen forests
Trees and plants: Coffee, Cardamom, Dahu, Vavangu, Indian rose chestnut, Kampakam, White cedar
and Pallaquim ellipticum.
Fauna
Leopard, Nilgiri Marten, Mouse Deer, Tiger, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Elephant, Rat Snake, King Cobra,
Python, Brown Mongoose, Porcupine, etc.
Avian Fauna
Great Pied Hornbill, Black Eagle, Fairy Bluebird, Broadbilled Roller, Malabar Trogon and others.
Getting there
The nearest railways stations to Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary are located at Mangalore and Mysore.
The closest airport is at Mangalore. The road route from Mysore is: Mysore-Madikeri- Talakaveri
sanctuary (about 25 km). The sanctuary is also connected to Bangalore and Mangalore through
regular bus services.
Accommodation is available in a small rest house situated between Kumar Parvat and
Heggedemane. During the non-monsoon seasons, trekkers can pitch camp for resting at few points
that are located between Kumar Parvat and Kukke Subramanya and at Giri gadde with prior
permission from the forest officials.
Jeep safaris and trekking are popular tourist activities here. Igguthappa Devara Betta is a nearby
popular tourist spot.
