UDANTI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY SANCTUARY
Udanti wildlife sanctuary is situated on the Raipur-Deobhog state highway on the Chhattisgarh-Orissa
border. It was setup in the year 1985. It derives its name from the River Udanti. The sanctuary is a part
of the famous Udanti-Sitanandi Tiger Reserve.
Flora
Vegetation cover: southern tropical arid deciduous mixed forest and tropical arid peninsular sal forest.
Plants and trees: Teak, bamboo, mahua, tendu, sal, ber, harra, semal, aonwla.
Fauna
Flagship species: endangered wild buffalo.
Other species: tiger, barking deer, leopard, black buck, chital, porcupine, gaur, sloth bear, bison, wild
dog, cobra, python, four-horned antelope and others.
Avian fauna
Racket-tailed drongo, magpie robin, bulbul, heron, egret, roller, pintail, parrot, lesser whistling teal, etc.
Accessibility
The nearest railway station and airports are situated at Raipur (around 175 km away). Another nearest
railhead is at Rajim which is approximately 115 km away from Udanti wildlife sanctuary. Nearest bus
terminal is also located at Rajim. The principal road route is Raipur-Rajim-Gariaband-Mainpur-Deobhog
PWD.
Tourist Information
Tourists can find comfortable staying facilities at the forest rest houses at Mainpur, Taurenga, Koeba,
Jugaad and Karlajhar. One can also opt to lodge in the rest houses of the Lok Nirman Department
located at Mainpur.
Entry permit is required for entering Udanti sanctuary from the Divisional Forest Officer. Godena
waterfall, Sikaser waterfall, Deodhara waterfall, etc. are some of the nearby tourist spots that are worth
visiting.
